White spots on the nail are commonly known as Leuconychia and it is usually a result of a minor injury to the nail bed. Melanonychia, on the other hand, refers to a dark band or streak on the nail caused by an increase in melanin production. Onychophagy is the habit of biting or chewing on one's nails, which can result in damage and white spots on the nail. Onychia is a general term for inflammation or infection of the nail, which can also cause white spots. However, Leuconychia specifically refers to the white spots themselves.
